Congrats to the Bantam Aeros MD squad on winning the 2019 Motown Cup Championship this past weekend in Detroit.
We started the round-robin on Friday by losing 4-1 to the 9th ranked team in Ontario, North Toronto, who play in the GTHL A division. It was a tough way to begin the tourney but maybe it was the wake up call our team needed as we followed up with a 4-1 win vs the Humberview Huskies & a 7-1 win vs the Meadowvale Hawks on Saturday. The 2-1 record set us up for a semi-final on Sunday morning vs a solid Burlington Bulldogs (White) squad who currently sit in 3rd place in the Alliance East division. The boys clearly came to play on Sunday and sent the Bulldogs home with a 4-1 win setting us up with a rematch vs North Toronto in the finals. The Championship game was an exciting one filled with end to end action including a penalty shot, multiple breakaways, huge stops by both goaltenders & outstanding efforts from all players on both teams. The Aeros were not going to be denied on this day & held on to a hard fought 2-1 victory over one of the best teams we've seen this year.
Congrats boys we're very proud of your team effort this weekend. You learned what it takes to be Champions & we'll carry that on the rest of our journey together.
Go Aeros!
