2019-20 Oakridge Aeros Bantam MD Team
Submitted By Rich Palser on Thursday, August 29, 2019
Welcome to the 2019-20 Oakridge Aeros Major Bantam MD team & tryout info page.

For those who don't know me I'm a 3rd generation Oakridge hockey coach with over 20 years coaching experience including the London Junior Knights program. I have a passion for the sport of hockey that I've played most of my life & continue to play today.

I fully understand having a Major Bantam team is a gift considering the amount of kids who unfortunately drop out at this age. Keeping that in mind we will do our very best to make this a FUN & memorable season while recognizing that we also need to work around their busy new high school lives. It is my sincere hope that these players continue to play hockey well beyond this season & we'll do our part to help grow their love for the game.

That being said & based on my feedback we have planned 1 regular 1.5 hr. practice night per week rather than 2 1 hr. practice nights scheduled in past seasons (we will have occasional extra practice ice given to us). We have also cut down the number tournaments from 4 to 3 (not including the Alliance tournament in April being held in London should we qualify).

Regular Practice Ice:
Tuesdays, 8:30-9:50 @ Oakridge Arena

Tournaments:
Oct 18-20 - JMT Memorial, St. Catharines

Nov 8-10 - Motown Cup, Detroit

Jan 17-19 - West London Competitve, London

Apr 9-12 - Alliance Championships, London (if we qualify)

All players will be fairly evaluated by impartial non-parent coaches & volunteers throughout the tryout process. We will not discuss results with anyone outside of the evaluation group until the tryouts are completed.

I will be selecting the top two goalies & 13-15 skaters. Players will be evaluated on character, attitude, compete level, coachability & skill level.

In addition to the regular hockey registration & the MD surcharge which was paid at the time of registration, approximately $500 per player in other team costs (covering tournaments, additional ice, exhibition games, etc.) can be expected. Team fees will be reduced through active Fundraising & Sponsorships.

Now that the Purple Mustangs have moved their tryouts to September our tryouts will start immediately after theirs. I will have the tryout list posted after their team is selected. Players need to be registered in Oakridge MD to be able to tryout so please register if you have not already done so.

You should also have received an email with regards to Rowan's Law. Before any participant can take part in any activity associated with Oakridge Hockey (including tryouts) they must have read the age-appropriate information about Rowan's Law and concussion awareness and have signed the Ontario Hockey Federation acknowledgement form.  If they are under 18, a parent must also sign the acknowledgement form.

More info can be found here:
https://oakridgeaeroshockey.ca/Teams/1890/Articles/7182/Rowan_s_Law_-_Concussion_Protocol/

Please bring your own water bottle to tryouts. Jerseys will be provided. If your player is sick, injured or unable to attend a session please contact me via email.

Should your player be released from this team, Oakridge Hockey will refund the competitive surcharge less the tryout fee. Released players have the option to tryout for the GLHA Select program in addition to their Community Hockey League (House League) team.

Feedback will be given on request at the end of tryouts by EMAIL ONLY (No phone calls or texts), please respect the 24-hour rule.

The tryout schedule is on the calendar; please check this website throughout the tryout process for schedule and roster changes.  I will let the players know when to check for roster updates.

I wish all players GOOD LUCK & look forward to a great season of Oakridge hockey.

Go Aeros!

Coach Rich

I would like to thank all the players who attended this year's Major Bantam Aeros tryouts. The skill level & effort on display this week make the decision for myself as well as the independent evaluators very difficult.
