Sept 13 Update - U8 MD
Hello U8 families,

We are getting close to the start of the 2021/22 season!

You will see on the calendar that 4 Preparation skates have been booked for all U8 Novice players, both HL and MD.  The skates take place on September 18, 19, 22, and 25.  They are for skill development and no evaluations will take place.  The skates will allow for some of the players get back on the ice after their summer break.

MD tryouts take place on September 27, 29 and 30.  You will see there are two hours for each date.  This is due to the limit on the number of skaters allowed on the ice at one time (Farquharson = 20, Medway = 24).

Again, the goal is to have independent evaluators on the ice assessing the players.  Evaluators will be looking not just at skills, but also for traits like “coachability” and potential for development.

At the end of the tryouts the team will be selected and posted on this team website.  18 athletes will be selected.  In the past the team has been made up of 16 players and 2 goalies.

The website is the most accurate resource for the team schedule.  Ice times are already being booked.  When in doubt, check the website!

I have booked the team in four tournaments, 2 local (North and West) and 2 out of town (Burlington and Brantford).  Again, they are on the calendar.

There is an increased financial and personal commitment associated with the U8 MD team.

The financial commitment may be reduced through fundraising, but there is no guarantee.  Team fees in addition to registration fees and the MD “bump up” fee will be calculated with the assistance of at least two budget managers.  Transparency with the budget will be a guarantee.  The team fee will cover costs like extra ice times, tournaments, practice jerseys, referees for exhibition games, and equipment.

This will most likely be the first competitive team that your son or daughter will try out for.  The time commitment for players selected for the team is significant.  This shouldn’t be a surprise when the season begins.

Review the Player Pathways information on this website for more information on how the season and game play will look.  Games are 4 on 4, half ice.  All players will receive an equal amount of ice time.

The steadfast focus of the season will be on skill development while maintaining a fun experience for the team.

See you at the rink soon!
