Welcome to the Aeros Minor Peewee MD tryouts for the 2019-20 season.
Submitted By Rich Duench on Wednesday, August 14, 2019
I am excited for the opportunity to coach this team as the 2008 Aeros MD team finished last season strong and we’re expecting and another awesome season. I have coached hockey at AA, MD and Houseleague levels for over 10 seasons as both a parent and non-parent. I have played hockey for 40 years including at the College Varsity and Junior levels and still play today.

This season’s focus will be on having fun, being a great teammate, working hard, respecting others, and continued improvement/skill development while instilling a love of hockey.   We will run fun & well-planned practices with advanced coaching to provide development opportunities for enthusiastic skilled players to play hockey in a challenging, competitive yet fun setting.

This 2008 age group is large in numbers and deep with talent and previous competitive experience does not guarantee placement on this team. All players will be fairly evaluated by impartial non-parent assistant coaches and volunteers throughout the tryout process. We will not discuss any results with anyone outside of the evaluation group until the tryouts are completed.

I will be selecting the top two goalies and 13-15 skaters, positions could change throughout tryouts and during the season.  Please let me know ASAP if your child is trying out for a specific position (other than goalie).

Here are the key things that we are evaluating:

o        Hockey ability, skill and aptitude

o        Coach-ability

o        Compete level (effort)

o        Character

In addition to the regular hockey registration and the MD surcharge which was paid at the time of registration, approximately $500-$700 per player in other team costs (3 tournaments, additional training/ice, and exhibition games, plus possibly qualifying for the Alliance playdown tournament in London mid-April) can be expected, plus your own travel costs for tournaments. Team fees will be reduced through active Fundraising and gaining team Sponsorships.

Now that the Purple Mustangs have moved their tryouts to September our tryouts will start immediately after theirs. I will have the tryout list posted after their team is selected. Players need to be registered in Oakridge MD to be able to tryout so please register if you have not already done so.

Please bring your own water bottle to tryouts. Jerseys will be provided.  If a player is not sure of a drill, please ask any of the instructors on the ice. We will do our best to make your child feel relaxed, confident and as comfortable as possible. If your player is sick, injured or unable to attend a session please contact me via email.

Should your player be released from this team, Oakridge Hockey will refund the competitive surcharge less the tryout fee. Released players have the option participate in the new GLHA Select program in addition to Community League hockey. Please keep in mind that these players are only 10/11 years old and regardless of the tryout result there is plenty of great hockey ahead for your son.

Feedback will be given at the end of tryouts by EMAIL ONLY (No phone calls or texts), please respect the 24-hour rule. I will not address any comparison style questions (Why is Player A better than Player B?)

The tryout schedule is on the calendar; please check this website throughout the tryout process for schedule and roster changes.  I will let the players know when to check for roster updates.

I wish all players GOOD LUCK and look forward to seeing all players give it their best effort while playing this fun sport.

Coach Rich
