Welcome to the 2019/20 Oakridge Aeros Minor Novice MD3 Season
Submitted By Chris Rodney on Sunday, August 25, 2019
My name is Chris Rodney and I am the head coach for the upcoming season. I am excited for the opportunity to coach this team and I look forward to getting underway. I have been very active in planning the upcoming season, all to ensure we have a great year!

I have been a long time coach in our London community; as both a parent, and non-parent coach.

This season will introduce the team to competitive MD hockey with the focus on development and fun. Hockey Canada introduced a new program last year which we will continue to follow. This includes half ice games with a four-on-four game structure.  The emphasis this year is to develop and encourage the concepts of being a team member through player participation in both on-ice and off-ice activities.

Our season begins Saturday, September 7th for all players that have registered to play for Oakridge. The first few skates are designed for players to get back on the ice with no evaluations. We ask that you follow along with our team page (link provided below) for all updates.

After the first few skates, we will follow up to see who would like to tryout for the MD3 team and who prefers to play House League.  A major difference being the time commitment required with regards to MD hockey. Below is an outline of the personal and financial commitments required for the MD3 team.

·       The team will consist of 16 players and 2 goalies

·       We will be on the ice 2-3 times per week

·       There is an additional “bump up” fee to play MD which is above and beyond your registration fee. This fee is to cover costs associated with additional ice that the Association provides MD teams. Should your player be released from the MD3 team, Oakridge Hockey will refund the competitive surcharge.

·       There will be an additional team fee (budgets have not been completed or approved). This money is used to run the team for the season (i.e., tournament registrations, additional ice, team equipment - practice jerseys, pucks, water bottles, etc. - travel permits, and game officials for exhibition games). A detailed budget will be provided to the parent group at the first parent meeting once the season begins.

·       Purchase of a team warm up suit.  This is separate from the team fee.

·       Reduction in team fees will be determined by the amount of fundraising we do as a team. All families are required to participate in fundraising activities and the group will decide on the fundraising events.

·       Travel will occur this year, with tournament play as well as Sarnia being in our division for regular season play. We will also face off against North London, West London and the London Bandits.

·       We will participate in 2-3 tournaments plus the year-end Alliance MD Championships in Burlington, ON.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to me by email at [email protected].

Looking forward to seeing everyone on September 7th!

Thank you,

Chris Rodney
