Rowan's Law - Concussion Protocol
Submitted By Webmaster on Thursday, July 25, 2019
On July 1st, 2019, Rowan's Law (Concussion Safety), 2018 comes into effect.

IMPORTANT:  Before any participant can take part in any activity associated with Oakridge Hockey they must have read the age-appropriate information about Rowan's Law and concussion awareness and have signed the Ontario Hockey Federation acknowledgement form.  If they are under 18, a parent must also sign the acknowledgement form.

This new law makes it mandatory for sports organizations to do the following:

1. Ensure that athletes, parents of athletes under 18, coaches and officials confirm every year that they have reviewed Ontario's concussion awareness resources.
2. Establish a removal-from-sport (RFS) and return-to-sport (RTS) protocol.
3. Establish a concussion code of conduct that sets out rules of behaviour to support concussion prevention.

The review of concussion awareness resources and concussion codes of conduct are expected to be in place by July 1, 2019. The rules for RFS and RTS are expected to be in place by July 1, 2020.

The Concussion Awareness Resource e-booklets are available below along with a confirmation form that you have reviewed the government's resource in accordance with the legislation.

--> Rowan's Law - Ages 10 and Under
--> Rowan's Law - Ages 11 to 14
