UPDATE: ENROLMENT IS NOW FULL PENDING ON PAYMENT. ANY OTHER INTERESTED GOALTENDERS WILL BE PLACED ON A WAIT-LIST AND BE GIVEN A SPOT IF ONE OPENS.

Oakridge Aeros Hockey is exited to announce that our New In-house Goalie development program will be run by Pure Hockey Goaltending (PHG) with support of our Oakridge coaches for the 2019-20 season.

Sessions will run Bi-Weekly Wednesday’s @ Oakridge Arena 6-7pm (missing Dec 25/Jan 1) October 9 to March 4. These sessions will be professionally run by PHG and experienced coaches and have a low student-coach ratio.  We are aiming to provide maximum value along with convenient icetime at our home arena location. Sessions will be open for all Oakridge-registered goalies and enrolment is capped to a maximum of 16 goalies.

Our goal is to better equip our young goalies with the best skills and confidence possible to ensure their enjoyment playing goalie for their minor hockey years and beyond.

Established in 1999, Pure Hockey Goaltending (PHG) has grown to become one of the premier goalie development programs in Southwestern Ontario. Owned and operated by David Rook; currently the NHL's Nashville Predators Goaltending Development Coach. David has more than 20 years of coaching experience, highlighted by a stint as the Columbus Blue Jackets Goaltending Coach from 2009-11 and as the St. Louis Blues Goaltending Consultant from 2006-09. He has also spent time as the goaltending coach for the OHL’s Sarnia Sting and the London Knights, winning a Memorial Cup in 2005 and 2016. He also spent two seasons in Europe with Alleghe HC of the Italian League and Ambri-Piotta of the Swiss A League. Currently, David is a member of the Advisory Board with the Ontario Hockey League helping to develop a Certification Program for goalie coaches in Ontario.

The Oakridge Goaltending Development Program’s sessions will be run by PHG's Nathan Craze.

Nathan is originally from the UK and played professional hockey in the British Elite League (1st League). After a playing career of 10 years Nathan went into coaching working for the Great Britain Women's national team program as their goaltending coach and running his own goalie school in Nottingham, England. Nathan has worked with the Great Britain Men's national program coaching the U16, U18 and U20's goalies as well as coaching professionally in the British Elite League for the Coventry Blaze and in the English Premier League (2nd League) for the Hull Pirates.

Nathan has attended internationally camps with Hockey Canada's POE Goaltending Camp in Calgary, USA Hockey's Warren Strelow Goaltending Camp in Plymouth, MI and at the Red Bull Salzburg Goaltending Academy in Austria. The past two years Nathan has been the goaltending coach for Wilfred Laurier University’s Women’s team as well as assisting David at PHG.

PHG’s success is based on a continuous study of the game at all levels. At PHG, it is their goal to provide goaltenders of all ages and abilities with the most up to date on-ice development and off-ice preparation in order for them to obtain the values and skills required to lead to success both in the blue ice and out.

Each goaltender must have their own technical skills and abilities which is their foundation needed for on-ice performance. Goaltenders must focus and master their “must have’s” to be successful game in and game out.

The Main Focus Areas of these sessions are:

• Mobility - Movement

• Positioning

• Rebound Control

• Reading the Play – Goalie IQ

• Game Situation Drills - (based on the 5 scoring chances)

• Puck Handling

Participating goalies will be monitored throughout the season to assess progress and results.

COST: $330.00 per goalie, registration is capped at 16 goalies. Players will be grouped by age/ability. If there is excess demand a second session will be added.

‘Nathan worked as our goalie coach last year with great success, he brings a wealth of playing experience to his coaching. I really liked that he didn't change our goalies style but worked with them to improve both their technical and mental aspects of their game. We will work with Nathan again this season and value all he brings to our goalies, to our team.’
