Important information for all Major Novice Players (2011-Born)
Submitted By Novice on Monday, September 2, 2019
Important information for your 2011-Born child about our upcoming Novice hockey season.

In alignment with the new Hockey Canada season format, all players will go through a development phase then lead into an evaluation phase allowing some time at the end to practice as a team with the remaining development weeks.

All Novice aged-kids are to begin their season with the 3 prep skates starting on September 3th. These Prep Skates give all Novice players the chance to get back on the ice in a more “Player Friendly” scenario run by our fantastic group of volunteer coaches..

After the 3 prep skates players can continue into the Competitive Tryout Process by registering if they have not already done so or wait until House League assessments later in September.

Registration is still open for the 2019 / 2020 season, please register ASAP if you have not yet done so!

There are 2 Competitive MD teams at the Major Novice level; MD1 and MD2.  We are fortunate to have strong, experienced Coaches leading each team. Everyone registered in Minor Development (MD) will start with the MD1 tryouts after the prep skates.  Once the MD1 team is selected; the remaining players will move to MD2 tryouts which are listed on their team calendar.  The MD2 team is the second of 2 competitive teams for Oakridge kids born in 2011 and is also a strong level of hockey.

For families and players new to the MD level, MD provides an opportunity for players who are more skilled and enthusiastic to play hockey in a more challenging and competitive setting.  The season is structured to provide a higher practice to game ratio and league game travel is limited to the West MD league made up of Oakridge, West London Hawks, London Bandits, North London Nationals, Sarnia & Stratford. The season also runs into early April, a few weeks longer than Houseleague.

Our Houseleague program also provides outstanding development for young players with a lower frequency of league games (limited to London only) plus one weekly practice and optional team Festival/Tournament participation. Below is the recommended Major Novice MD Season Structure, further information can be found at:

NOTE: MD has additional costs involved above and beyond the registration fee to pay for additional practice ice, tournament fees and misc team costs which are covered by an additional team fee set within each teams budget. This fee is offset by each team's sponsorship and fundraising efforts.

Please make sure to subscribe to the Novice MD1 calendar feed to ensure you have the most up-to-date information regarding tryout updates, times and locations.
