COVID 19 – VACCINATIONS
The GLHA is still unsure of what the mandates will be in place in the fall, so decisions are yet to be made regarding where we will be with vaccination mandates for our associations. We will continue to work with the City of London and the Middlesex London Health Unit on this. GLHA continues to promote the use of all public health measures, including vaccination, to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The epidemiology of COVID-19 continues to demonstrate a higher likelihood of COVID-19 amongst unvaccinated individuals. Vaccination continues to be a safe and effective means of reducing transmission and severity of illness for children and adults alike.
Upcoming tryouts mark the beginning of the 2022/2023 season and a change in GLHA policy. Eligible players interested in trying out for this season can do so, regardless of vaccination status.
Those individuals who are unvaccinated and trying out must be aware that the unpredictable nature of COVID-19 may result in a change in policy in future, including the possibility of re-instituting a vaccination requirement for the fall of 2022. If an unvaccinated player is successful at obtaining a position on a competitive team, and a vaccination requirement is put into effect prior to play beginning in the fall of 2022, the player will either need to (a) receive vaccination as required or (b) give up his/her position on the team. Please be assured that GLHA is committed to maintaining the health and safety of our players, coaches, and volunteers. We look to provincial experts and local public health leaders to inform our health and safety protocols and will continue to monitor for changing guidance.
