Oakridge A6 Wins in the 14th Oakridge Classic!
Congrats to the Oakridge A6 team with their victory in the 14th Annual Oakridge House League Classic!The team opened the tournament with vs. a tough team from Oakville, who they most recently played against in the Jayden Ellmore tournament with Oakville winning 3-2. This meeting A6 was not to be denied and came out with a hard fought 4-2 win when Oakville ran into penalty trouble in the third period.
The second game of the tournament found A6 vs. a Kitchener Inferno team that was game right off the bat. A6 vs. Kitchener teams has never been easy, and coaches firmly believe if it wasn't for a few key saves in the second period with A6 up by a goal that the result could have been vastly different, the end result was A6 winning by a score of 6-1.
The third game had A6 vs. an unknown team from Caledonia. The A6 team came out flying and Caledonia didn't know what hit them. The game was in the book before the end of the first period. The result was A6 going straight to the finals with a 3-0 record. The finals were played in the wee hours of Sunday morning, first up on the large City ice at Western Fair.
The game was against the Kitchener Inferno that won a tight 1-0 game vs. Oakville the day before. Coaches stressed previous result was out the window and this was a one game, winner takes home the prized trophy. The game had everything the teams, parents and spectators could have asked for. Breakaways, penalties, key saves, live trumpet player, goal posts...it was a fun game to watch.Oakridge A6 prevailed in the end with a late goal with under 2 minutes to play!
