Two weeks away!!!
Hello parents, I hope everyone is enjoying what is left of summer. I thought I would send out a quick message with details about the upcoming tryouts and my expectations for the 2016-2017-season schedule.

Tryouts begin on Wednesday, September 7th at Nichols Arena (Pad B) from 5:30 pm - 6:20 pm. The rest of the tryouts, including exhibition games, have been posted on the team calendar. The best way to make sure you have the most accurate dates, times, and locations is to subscribe to the calendar. You can do this by clicking “subscribe” at the top right hand side of the calendar. I would also suggest that you arrive for tryouts 45-60 minutes ahead of schedule to register and ensure your child is dressed and ready by “Aeros time”, which is 10 minutes before going on the ice. “Aeros time” is what I consider my time. This is time that I have with the players to communicate what is going to happen when we get on the ice.

Each player will be given a minimum of two tryout sessions. During the first three sessions I will be running drills that focus on speed, skating transition (backwards to forwards), giving/receiving passes, shooting, and hockey sense. The goalies will be evaluated on balance, mobility, quickness, and positioning. I will also be observing each player for their level of leadership, coachability, focus, hustle, and listening skills. Please understand that the above list is not exhaustive but it should give everyone a good idea of what I will be looking for.

On another note, I also wanted to talk about the commitment to competitive. As you will see on the calendar, we have a minimum of two practices a week with the possibility of more should ice time become available. We will also have a minimum of one game per week with the possibility of more. My expectation is that all players attend each and every session. Playoff time does run during March Break. My expectation is that all players are available during that time. As I mentioned in my previous communication, one of my main objectives is to win the alliance. This is a tough challenge and an ambitious goal but it would be even tougher without all the key pieces to the puzzle. If anyone has any questions or concerns regarding the above expectations please contact me.

I would like to close by saying how excited I am to get the season started and how much I look forward to helping these young players develop their love of the game and their skill levels.

Sincerely,

Coach Greg
