"Oakridge Aeros team makes donation to London Food Bank"
London, ON (December 21st) With the need for food donations near record levels in the London
region, a local Oakridge hockey team took time off the ice to give back
to their community.
“We try and plan events off ice for the team to help build team cohesiveness and lasting friendships,” said Chris Veillon, head coach of the Oakridge Aeros Minor Bantam A team, in a news release. “At our monthly Ball Hockey & Burgers Event last weekend, each team member brought three non-perishable food items to be donated on behalf of the team to the London Food Bank.”
On Wednesday (Dec. 19), 86 pounds of non-perishable food items was delivered to the London Food Bank, care of the hockey team.
“We get donations from all walks of life, not sure if we have ever received one like this from a hockey team before. We are very appreciative of random acts of kindness like this,” said Josh Chadwick, community harvest coordinator for the London Food Bank.
Another member of the same Aeros team, Beau Hodgson, collects toys each year for the local Salvation Army. As of Dec. 17, Hodgson and his older brother, Jess, had collected more than 250 toys and expected to be collecting right up until Christmas Eve.
